Etching Artist Anita Lucero

Born in Barre, Vermont and raised in the neighboring town of Berlin. My interest in becoming an artist began early in my childhood. Stronger interest followed me into Jr. High and High School with a burning desire to succeed and learn. For the most part, I am a self-taught artisan. I studied seven months under Master Artisan Carroll Jones Jr., who is a master in realism and has illustrated and published  medical books on amputation and prosthetic limbs replacement for doctors helping veterans during WW1. He has been published many times in several magazines and books. I owe many thanks to Mr. Jones for his insight and beliefs in what he believed to be a God given gift.

I continued my interest in art as a hobby while working in sales and marketing as my career until May of 1989, when my career ended due to a major motorcycle accident. This took me two and half years and nine operations to recover. Leaving me with the realization of possibility of never being able to use my arm again, I prayed very hard and promised my greater power that given the chance I would do nothing but my art should he returns his gifts to me. My art became my therapy and a career as a portrait artist began.

Specializing in portraiture I studied  the Lakota Nations of the Great Plains. My works attracted much interest in the Greater Burlington Area. Working from my own photography of twenty some years enabled me to capture the light in the manner I wish to.

Many thanks to my family and friends especially life long friend Todd Tossi from Tossi Sandblast who introduced me to the world of etching and monument design. I also want to thank Jeff Martell and Forrest Rouelle owners of Granite Industries of Vermont and all their authorized Dealers who have shown ongoing support and interest in my works. Together we have made my career as a monumental etcher and designer a very successful one.

Involving myself in the promotion of education in etching has become a strong interest in giving back to the community and keeping the history and culture of art alive within the Granite Industry. I presently assist several students in furthering their education and building their own success stories as artists.

In addition I have created a series of stone designs complimenting the art work and maximizing the stone's potential.
